Plastic Free July

By Michelle Charlesworth

It's Plastic Free July - a month-long, worldwide movement enabling millions of people to be part of the solution to plastic pollution, for cleaner streets, oceans and communities. Single-use plastic is everywhere and often used so unnecessarily, but organisations and communities across the world are waking up to the detrimental effects of this material, and thinking outside the box to explore safer, healthier alternatives for the household items we use every day.

Leading a more plastic-free lifestyle ties into the Bioregional One Planet Living framework that Aspire has committed to - we have installed a bottleless water cooler as part of discouraging plastic water consumption, and we no longer use plastic cups or cutlery for our events. We’re also encouraging our teams to get creative - using reusable bags and avoiding the use of balloons and plastic decorations for celebrations - and making time to share tips amongst our team and inspire others around alternatives to single-use plastics.

As an organisation, we are also looking at our procurement practices and assessing where we can make further plastic-free changes, as there is so much more than we can all do!

Will you be part of Plastic Free July, and choose to refuse single-use plastics? Find out more about the impact of this switch by visiting Plastic Free July - and tackle the challenge!
