Employment support for ex-military personnel

Are you a veteran or ex-reservist living in Oxfordshire? If so, you and your family can now benefit from Aspire’s ex-military specialist support service.

We can help you move forward with your life and find employment, work experience, education or training. Aspire is working together with local barracks, other military charities, job centres and employers to give you all the support you need to find employment.

How we can help:

  • 1:1 specialist employment support; access to training courses; help with updating CVs; interview practice; volunteering opportunities; work placements and in-work support.
  • Work experience on Aspire’s own Social Enterprise businesses in grounds and property maintenance.
  • Specialist help and support with additional barriers such as homelessness, substance misuse or poor mental wellbeing.
  • Dedicated self-employment support to help you get your business idea up and running.
  • Access to sports and social activities to improve your confidence and mental well-being

We can also link you into the following services:

  • Local Housing Associations and Homeless pathways
  • Debt Management support
  • Mental Health and counselling services
  • Children’s Centres and Family Link Services

We can tailor the support to meet individual or family needs and will work with you in a holistic way to help you move forward and feel part of the community you live in.

Barry’s story:

Flight Sergeant Barry Mills started working with Aspire in January 2018. Barry joined the RAF at 17 as an Aircraftman and served all over the world. Barry was medically discharged out of the RAF in August 2012 having completed 33 years military service. He was diagnosed with complex PTSD and felt he had “lost all purpose” in his life.

Barry has been getting specialist help for his PTSD from the Adult Mental Health Team in Witney and attends Witney Mind. Barry feels he has much to give to the local community and is keen to utilise the skills and knowledge he has gained in the military.

If, like Barry, you have served in the military or are in the process of transitioning out of the military and could benefit from this new project then please contact Caroline Winn, Aspire’s Employment and Development Worker on 07718 478925 or email [email protected]

We would also be delighted to hear from any military charities/organisations or local employers who would like to work in partnership with Aspire as we build our support for ex-military personnel in Oxfordshire.
