Place at the Table: Aspire's Christmas Appeal 2019

Christmas should be a time of celebration, but there are hundreds of people across Oxfordshire facing Christmas alone or in crisis. They may be rough sleeping, at risk of homelessness, long-term unemployed or living in poverty. Aspire supports these people all year round, but this Christmas we want to make sure that they all have a place at the table.

On Wednesday 18th December, Aspire will be hosting a festive dinner for the people we support who are facing homelessness, poverty and disadvantage. With your help, we can make sure they have not only a brighter Christmas, but also a brighter future.

This Christmas event will provide people with a hot meal, much needed company and a Christmas gift. Crucially, it will also enable everyone who attends to access long-term, specialist employment and housing support which addresses the root causes of poverty and disadvantage.

How you can help

We are asking our local community to help us make sure that we can be there for everyone who needs us this Christmas. Will you join us in tackling homelessness and poverty across Oxfordshire? Whether you make a donation, fundraise or get your church, company or school involved, you'll be transforming Christmas for some of the most vulnerable people in Oxfordshire.

  • £25 could sponsor a Place at the Table for someone facing homelessness, poverty or isolation, ensuring that they can benefit from a Christmas dinner, a gift and wider support

  • £32 could pay for a training course to help a formerly homeless person into employment

  • £250 could sponsor a table, transforming the lives of ten people experiencing multiple disadvantage

  • £500 could sponsor a table with additional specialist employment support, helping vulnerable people to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, for good.

I found a charity called Aspire who took me under their wings, and made me realise that I matter in life. They helped me to find employment with a major construction company, and also helped me to find a home. This has given me hope and security for the future.

Aspire's wider homelessness programmes

This appeal comes at a time when Aspire is doing more than ever before to tackle Oxfordshire's homelessness and housing crisis.

We are running housing projects for rough sleepers and ex-offenders at risk of homelessness. We are continuing our vital homelessness prevention programme to make sure that people at risk of eviction have the support they urgently need to stay in their homes. We will be part of the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) to ensure that no one needs to sleep rough during the coldest nights of the winter.

Last year, the need for our work increased by 46%. By supporting Aspire's Christmas Appeal, you will help us be there for everyone who needs us.

On behalf of everyone at Aspire - thank you so much for your support.

All money raised at our Christmas Dinner event and appeal will go to Aspire to help us support more people in need. We would like to thank Yarnton Home and Garden for generously covering the costs of the Christmas Dinner and Newcore Capital Management for their support.
